Privacy policy

ScubaCam is an iPhone camera app for underwater housings, made by Maarten Veenstra. This policy explains what the app does with your information. In short: ScubaCam does not collect your data. It has no account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and it doesn't send anything to a server. The one exception is a housing profile you can choose to send, described below.
What stays on your iPhone
ScubaCam asks for these permissions, and uses them only on your iPhone:
- Camera and microphone to take photos and record video with sound.
- Photos to save your photos and videos to your library. ScubaCam asks only to add photos. If you allow full access, it uses it only to keep your footage together in a ScubaCam album, and doesn't look at your other photos.
- Location (while using the app) to write the surface location of your dive into each photo and video, so your footage is tagged with the dive site. The location is stored only in those files.
- Bluetooth to connect to your dive housing, read its buttons and sensors, and run its vacuum pump and seal check.
- Motion and fitness to read the iPhone's barometer for the seal check.
Settings, housing profiles you save, and the app's session logs are stored on your iPhone and are deleted when you delete the app. ScubaCam shares a photo, video, recovery file or log only when you choose to share it yourself, with the share sheet.
The housing profile you can choose to send
If your housing isn't supported yet, Help support a new housing can record its Bluetooth profile so support for it can be added. The profile contains:
- what the housing advertises over Bluetooth: its name, services and characteristic values
- the buttons you pressed during the recording
- the name and notes you give it
- the ScubaCam version, your iPhone model and its iOS version
Nothing is sent automatically. The profile leaves your iPhone only if you choose to send it by email or share it. If you email it, the message goes to the developer from your own mail account, so the developer also receives your email address. The profile is used only to add support for that housing. To have it deleted, email the address below.
Purchases
ScubaCam Pro is sold as an App Store subscription. Apple handles the payment. ScubaCam only learns whether your subscription is active, and never sees your payment details.
Apple
When you download the app, buy a subscription or share crash reports with developers, Apple's own privacy policy applies. If you've chosen to share diagnostics with developers in iOS Settings, Apple may pass anonymous crash reports on to the developer.
